New details about the upcoming BYD Song L DM-i SUV have emerged from recent filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The new model will be a plug-in hybrid and will join the popular Song family of vehicles in BYD’s Dynasty series.
The Song L DM-i features a design that is distinct from the all-electric Song L, with a larger front grille and more conventional proportions. The vehicle measures 4780mm in length, 1898mm in width, and 1670mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2782mm.
The interior is expected to be similar to other recent BYD models, featuring a rotating central screen, a digital instrument cluster, and a high-quality finish.
The powertrain will consist of a 1.5L engine and an electric motor, combined with BYD’s Blade Battery. Two different battery sizes will be offered, providing pure electric ranges of 120 km and 160 km respectively. The vehicle will be equipped with BYD’s fifth-generation DM-i technology, which is expected to deliver excellent fuel efficiency.
The BYD Song L DM-i is expected to be officially launched in the second half of this year, with a price range likely to be between 120,000 and 160,000 yuan, positioning it to be a strong competitor in the mainstream compact SUV segment.
