Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi, announced today that the upcoming Xiaomi YU7 SUV will support external voice commands through its Xiaoai voice assistant. The vehicle is equipped with eight exterior microphones and one speaker, enabling users to easily control the car and communicate with Xiaoai from any angle outside the vehicle.
A key feature demonstrated is the ability to open the front trunk (frunk) using a simple voice command. For security, waking up Xiaoai from outside the vehicle requires both voiceprint recognition and key authentication.
Xiaomi has scheduled a new product launch event for this Thursday, June 26th, at 7 PM, where the YU7 will be officially unveiled and launched.
Addressing questions about why Xiaomi’s first SUV is not a popular six-seater model, Lei Jun explained the company’s philosophy. He emphasized that the “S” in SUV stands for Sport, and Xiaomi is committed to creating a true sports SUV. “The YU7 is not an ordinary, mediocre boxy SUV,” Lei stated. “It is a luxury high-performance SUV that balances the luxury and comfort needs of daily use with ample space.”
