Zhejiang Qilan Battery Technology Co., Ltd. is set to establish a production facility for 2GWh sodium-ion batteries and systems, which is a crucial part of the sodium-ion battery supply chain, encompassing battery design, cell assembly, and testing. On July 2, the Longgang City Administrative Service Center in Zhejiang Province announced the approval of the environmental impact report for this project. In recent years, with the development of the energy storage industry, the scarcity and high cost of lithium battery resources have become increasingly prominent. Sodium-ion batteries stand out due to their cost-effectiveness, safety, and performance in extreme temperatures. The government has introduced several policies, including the "14th Five-Year Plan" for the development of new energy storage, to support the research and application of sodium-ion batteries, highlighting the strategic significance of developing sodium battery technology. The production project aims to lease a facility from Wenzhou Zhongwang Industrial Co., Ltd. located at No. 384-448, New City Times Avenue, Longgang City, Zhejiang Province, covering a total area of 14,198.98 square meters with a total investment of 250 million yuan. Once completed, it will produce 2GWh of sodium-ion cells annually. Zhejiang Qilan Battery Technology Co., Ltd. was established on December 27, 2024, with a registered capital of 50 million yuan, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Huzhou Chaonai New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., which was founded in August 2021. The company aims to become a global leader in sodium-ion battery materials and products, leveraging a core team of Zhejiang University professors to integrate R&D resources across multiple platforms. It holds over 100 core technologies and patents related to sodium-ion batteries and is one of the few companies in the industry with core R&D capabilities in this area. The company has completed commercial applications of sodium-ion energy storage projects with China State Construction Engineering, State Power Investment Corporation, and State Grid, as well as applications for Tailing two-wheeled vehicles and Xupai power supply projects.
