NIO Opens Its 1001st Battery Swap Station at Highest Elevation
On July 22, NIO founder, chairman, and CEO Li Bin announced the successful opening of NIO's 1001st battery swap station, which is also the highest NIO station in the world at an elevation of 4,500 meters - the Gongbu Jiangda battery swap station. This area is located in the southeastern part of Tibet, in the western part of Nyingchi City, and is a key route between Nyingchi and Lhasa. A 40-minute drive further south leads to the stunning Bangjie Tang grassland, known for its pure pastoral beauty. Li Bin emphasized that NIO has built a total of 3,409 battery swap stations and 8,087 charging and battery swap stations, creating a comprehensive battery swap network across 16 major urban clusters. NIO plans to enhance connectivity along the G318 Sichuan-Tibet Highway with 14 additional swap stations, allowing users to seamlessly swap batteries on their way to Mount Everest. This year, NIO has continued to strengthen and refine its charging and battery swap infrastructure. According to NIO's previous goals, by December 31, 2025, it aims to achieve battery swap accessibility across 2,300+ county-level administrative regions in 27 provincial-level administrative regions. Starting in 2026, NIO will work on covering the remaining provincial-level regions, targeting 2,800+ county-level districts. Besides expanding its infrastructure, NIO is also actively collaborating with automotive companies to establish a charging network. It has already achieved charging interoperability with brands such as Zeekr, Xiaomi Motors, Avita, Chery, Dongfeng Warrior, Hongmeng Zhixing, Hongqi, Deep Blue, Aion, Zhi Mi, Lotus, Cadillac, Buick, and Xpeng. Notably, in May of this year, Zeekr and NIO Energy established a bi-directional interoperability cooperation for their charging networks. Users of NIO, Leidao, and Firefly can find and utilize Zeekr charging piles through their app and vehicle charging maps, enhancing their charging experience. Additionally, in April, Wuhan NIO Energy Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Jining High-tech Holding Group Co., Ltd. in Jining, Shandong, to jointly build 50 NIO battery swap stations in the province. Jining High-tech Holding is a state-owned enterprise approved by the Jining High-tech Zone Management Committee, and this collaboration will focus on the construction and operation of new energy vehicle charging and battery swap infrastructures, as well as energy storage and battery recycling.
