On July 1, BYD held a ceremony for the first vehicle produced at its factory in Camasari, Bahia, Brazil, marking a new stage in BYD's globalization strategy and accelerating the process of Chinese automotive expansion abroad. The event was attended by notable guests including Bahia Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, Brazil's Minister of Culture Margareth Menezes, Camasari Mayor Luis Carlos Caetano, BYD Executive Vice President Li Ke, and General Manager of BYD Brazil Li Tie. The BYD Brazil passenger car factory not only plays a critical role in BYD's global layout but also serves as a strategic pivot for the entire Latin American new energy market. In his speech, Governor Jerônimo praised, 'The establishment of the BYD factory in Bahia is not only a symbol of industrial development but also a new chapter in Brazil-China cooperation. We are ready to embrace a greener and more innovative Brazil. This factory will drive local economic development, create jobs, and exemplify technological transformation.' Li Ke stated, 'As one of the companies with the highest R&D investment globally, BYD is infusing advanced technology into Brazil. From groundbreaking to the first vehicle rolling off the line, we accomplished this in just 15 months. This is a milestone for BYD and a new starting point for sustainable transportation development in Latin America. We chose Bahia because of its passionate people, experienced workers, and transformative potential.' The BYD Brazil passenger car factory is located in the metropolitan area of Salvador in Camasari, which is not only an important industrial and economic center in Bahia but also has a complete automotive industry chain and mature port logistics infrastructure. In July 2023, BYD announced a total investment of 5.5 billion reais (approximately 7.1 billion yuan) for a large production complex consisting of three factories. The new energy vehicle production line will manufacture pure electric and plug-in hybrid models, with an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles, expected to create 20,000 local jobs. Additionally, BYD will collaborate with various local supply chain partners to build a localized industrial cooperation model and promote the sustainable development of the new energy supply chain. Since entering the Brazilian market in 2021, BYD has gained the favor of over 130,000 Brazilian households. In the first quarter of this year, BYD's sales in Brazil surpassed 20,000 units, making it the champion of new energy vehicle sales in the region. In May, BYD climbed to fourth place in retail sales rankings among automotive brands in Brazil, achieving a market share of 9.7%. The strong sales performance reflects BYD's strategic determination and long-term commitment to deepening its presence in the Brazilian market. In response to complex policy environments and market competition, BYD has adopted localized production operations to navigate protection barriers. Today, BYD is reshaping the competitive landscape of the automotive industry in Latin America with 'Made in China' innovation, serving as a model for China's new energy industry going global from product export to ecological co-construction. In recent years, BYD has actively expanded its overseas industrial layout. To date, BYD's new energy footprint spans six continents, covering over 110 countries and regions globally. In the first half of the year, BYD's overseas sales exceeded 470,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 132%, and they expect to surpass 800,000 units in total overseas sales by 2025. In the future, BYD will continue to firmly combine international and localized development strategies, allowing Chinese brands to benefit global users and support the green transformation of the automotive industry.
