Cainiao, the logistics arm of Alibaba, announced that its new autonomous vehicle, the GT-Lite, has been launched and is now operational on public roads. The vehicle has a pre-sale price of 16,800 yuan. To date, Cainiao’s autonomous vehicles have successfully obtained road operation permits in over 500 districts and counties across more than 200 cities nationwide.
The new GT-Lite model features a more streamlined front design but is built on the same platform as Cainiao’s high-spec GT-Pro model, retaining the full, uncompromised autonomous driving system. A key feature of this new vehicle is Cainiao’s self-developed “light mapping” technology, which eliminates the need for prior map collection, allowing the vehicle to be deployed and become operational almost immediately.
According to Cainiao, the GT-Lite has been specifically designed for the needs of last-mile快递 (express delivery) stations. It offers a cargo capacity of 7 cubic meters, a payload of 600 kilograms, a top speed of 45 km/h, and a fully loaded range of 100 kilometers.
Cainiao stated that it has been developing autonomous vehicle technology for over ten years, with its fleet operating continuously for more than 3,000 days and nights. The company’s L4-level autonomous logistics fleet is a global leader in terms of safe operational mileage and customer numbers.
