According to reports from foreign media, Michigan State University (MSU) has discovered that a natural material found in wood can enhance the safety of lithium-ion batteries, which are widely used in devices such as mobile phones, laptops, and electric vehicles. Collaborating with MSU's Assistant Professor Chengcheng Fang and Associate Professor Mojgan Nejad from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the researchers developed a film separator made from lignin, a natural component in wood that provides support and rigidity. This separator can be used inside lithium-ion batteries to prevent short circuits that could potentially cause fires.
