JAC Motors Partners with Huawei to Develop Luxury Smart Electric Vehicles
JAC Motors, a state-owned enterprise established in 1964, has continuously launched milestone products. In recent years, it has actively embraced a transformation towards smart technology. In 2023, JAC reached a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Huawei to jointly develop luxury smart connected electric vehicles, with their first collaborative model, the Zun Jie S800, already unveiled. This vehicle features innovative technologies such as smart light curtain glass, directional voice control, and full-dimensional gesture interaction, redefining the experiential aspects of smart cars. On July 23, 2025, at the Automotive Smart Glass Innovation Technology and Application Conference, Wang Xin, an expert in electric body components at JAC Motors, elaborated on the core role of 'emotional value' in automotive consumption. He highlighted that this concept originates from consumer perception value theory, encompassing multi-dimensional needs related to physiology, psychology, and behavior. Wang emphasized that high-quality products should be the foundation to meet users' varying needs, from basic functionality to emotional resonance. JAC Motors has a rich history: it was founded in 1964, launched its first vehicle in 1968, brought the HFC1061 light truck to market in 1996, and listed on the A-share market in 2001. The first passenger car, the JAC Binyue, rolled off the production line in 2006, and the company gained qualifications for producing passenger vehicles that year. In 2014, the Ruifeng S3 was released, winning the small SUV championship in 2015 and 2016. In 2016, JAC partnered with NIO, and in 2020, it participated in the establishment of Volkswagen (Anhui) Co., Ltd. The collaboration with Huawei was officially announced on December 1, 2023, focusing on comprehensive cooperation in product development, manufacturing, sales, and services to create luxury smart connected electric vehicles. The Zun Jie S800 is equipped with advanced technologies, including smart light curtain glass designed not just for dimming but to fulfill specific scene needs and customer innovations. It supports gesture-based dimming with a response delay of less than one second and a light-blocking rate of over 99%, allowing for easy touch-free operations. The Zun Jie S800 also features directional voice control technology enabling 'point-and-control' operations for various functions, such as adjusting the rear window and privacy glass with a simple gesture and command. It includes high-sensitivity microphones to accurately capture voice commands while suppressing background noise. The system combines visual cues and voice commands to provide seamless control across complex scenarios. Additionally, it integrates full-dimensional gesture interaction for various functions, enhancing user experience with features like remote vehicle summon and automatic door operations through gestures. As the competition in the electric vehicle market intensifies, emotional value is becoming a new focus for companies to attract consumers. The collaboration with Huawei aims to create products that offer high emotional value to target customer groups. The concept of 'emotional value' stems from the customer perception value theory by Professor Jeffrey J. Bailey at the University of Iowa, referring to the difference between emotional benefits and emotional costs associated with a product. Positive emotions generated by the product can fulfill emotional needs. Emotional responses are closely tied to individual perceptions of their environment, reflecting complex states that affect social interactions and motivations. JAC Motors emphasizes that achieving emotional value must be rooted in high-quality products and requires collaboration across the supply chain to enhance performance to industry-leading levels before implementing design that fulfills emotional needs. In conclusion, the emotional value system is being systematically built for the new era of vehicles, focusing on aesthetics and quality, which are critical for meeting basic consumer demands. The development of emotional resonance, particularly in high-end automotive products, has become a core pursuit for the industry.
