International Standard for Autonomous Driving Test Scenarios Released

On July 7, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the official release of the international standard titled 'Road Vehicles - Testing Scenarios for Autonomous Driving Systems - Scenario Evaluation and Test Case Generation,' led by China. Testing scenarios are fundamental for evaluating the functions and performance of autonomous driving systems and are core elements supporting the application of multi-pillar safety verification methods such as simulation and closed-course testing. The diversity, coverage, and typicality of testing scenarios directly affect the validity and reliability of test results. The released standard mainly specifies the evaluation process and testing methods for autonomous driving system scenarios, clarifying the determination requirements for evaluation indicators such as exposure rate, complexity, and hazard level, and defining general methods for test case generation and their essential characteristics. A relevant official from the Equipment Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that the release and implementation of this standard reflect a significant consensus on autonomous driving testing and verification technologies globally. It will help form a comprehensive application framework for scenarios, from conceptual design to modeling and simulation, and from scenario library construction to the establishment of actual testing sites, providing foundational standards for the simulation development and testing evaluation of autonomous driving systems, effectively meeting the urgent needs for safety assessment and testing verification of these systems. It is reported that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will organize further participation from the China Automotive Technology and Research Center and other units in the revision and formulation of international standards in the automotive field, continuously enhancing China's involvement and contributions in coordinating international automotive standards and regulations.
