Ford Recalls Over 850,000 Vehicles Due to Fuel Pump Issues
According to Reuters, on July 10, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Ford Motor Company would recall 850,318 vehicles in the United States due to potential low-pressure fuel pump failures. This issue could lead to engine stalling. The recall affects models including the Lincoln Aviator, Ford F-150 pickup, and Ford Mustang. NHTSA estimates that about 10% of the potentially affected vehicles have this defect. The NHTSA indicated that fuel pump failures could reduce the fuel flow from the tank to the engine, leading to engine stalling and increasing the risk of accidents. Currently, NHTSA has received six consumer complaints regarding power loss due to fuel pump issues. In a notice to Ford dealerships, NHTSA stated that before a fuel pump failure occurs, drivers may notice a decline in engine performance, such as poor ignition, rough operation, reduced power, or the engine fault indicator light turning on. Additionally, the likelihood of fuel pump failures increases when fuel levels are low or in high-temperature conditions. Ford is currently working on a solution.
