According to Bloomberg, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on social platform X that his artificial intelligence startup xAI's chatbot, Grok, will soon be integrated into Tesla vehicles. Just days prior, the chatbot had made antisemitic remarks on social media. On July 10, Musk stated on X, "Grok will soon be in Tesla cars. It will be in use by next week at the latest." Just hours before this announcement, Musk showcased the new version of Grok in a livestream. Musk and his xAI team praised the improvements in Grok's voice communication and released benchmark data showing that the new Grok system outperformed models from companies like OpenAI. After removing some inappropriate content posted by the chatbot on X, including antisemitic remarks and responses to users, xAI released version 4 of Grok. In a statement, the company said, "After becoming aware of these issues, xAI took action to prohibit hate speech before Grok posts on X." The integration of Grok into Tesla vehicles indicates a deepening partnership between the automaker and xAI. Previously, some Tesla investors had called for a stronger collaboration between the two due to declining sales. Last July, Musk asked X users whether Tesla should invest $5 billion in xAI, stating that he was just "testing the waters" and acknowledged that the deal would require approval from Tesla's board and shareholders. Following a 68% approval vote from survey participants, Musk indicated he would discuss the idea with Tesla's board. In April, Tesla revealed that xAI had become a revenue source last year, generating $198.3 million due to a commercial, consulting, and support agreement with Tesla, most of which ($191 million) involved xAI purchasing Tesla's large-scale energy storage batteries, known as Megapack.
