China Implements Over 5.28 Million Vehicle Recalls in First Half of 2025

In the first half of 2025, China conducted a total of 87 vehicle recalls, affecting over 5.28 million vehicles. As of June 30, 2025, the country has carried out a cumulative total of 3,162 recalls, involving 119 million vehicles, according to information from the State Administration for Market Regulation. During the first half of the year, the administration initiated 21 investigations prompting manufacturers to recall vehicles, which involved approximately 2.34 million units. By the end of June, the total number of investigations had reached 628, affecting 63.49 million vehicles. Regarding the type of energy used, in the first half of 2025, traditional fuel vehicles were recalled 56 times, affecting 3.75 million vehicles, while new energy vehicles were recalled 48 times, involving 1.53 million vehicles. The most significant number of recalls was due to steering system defects, affecting 2.24 million vehicles, followed by engine defects at 1.05 million and brake system defects at 745,400 vehicles. In terms of brand classification, imported manufacturers recalled 41 times, affecting 1.71 million vehicles; joint venture manufacturers recalled 36 times, impacting 3.53 million vehicles; and domestic manufacturers recalled 10 times, affecting 39,500 vehicles.
