BYD's Export Fleet Expands: Seventh Ro-Ro Ship 'Zhengzhou' Begins Sea Trials

According to blogger @源之头2018, BYD’s seventh roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) car carrier, the “Zhengzhou,” began its sea trials on June 23rd, with delivery expected next month. The vessel is the latest addition to BYD’s “export fleet” and continues the tradition of being named after one of the company’s major production bases in China.

Manufactured by Guangzhou Shipyard International, the “Zhengzhou” is a sister ship to the “Hefei.” It measures 199.9 meters in length and 38 meters in width, with a capacity to transport 7,000 vehicles. The ship is powered by LNG dual-fuel propulsion and is equipped with a permanent magnet shaft generator and other energy-saving devices.

As of June 2025, BYD’s operational fleet includes:

An eighth vessel, the “Jinan,” is expected for delivery between August and September. BYD plans to establish an eight-ship Ro-Ro fleet by 2026, with a total transport capacity exceeding one million vehicles.

In May, BYD’s exports reached a new record of 89,000 vehicles. Total exports from January to May reached 374,200 units, a 112% year-over-year increase.
